Excellent Execution
12th June 2008
HANDSWORTH'S own Hitman - Sunny Hira was crowned undisputed world featherweight champion in front of close to a thousand of his adoring Birmingham supporters.
Hira went up against Gvido Brencis from Latvia who held an impressive record of 86fights and 76 wins and had never been knocked down.
Sunny entered the arena accompanied by Gurcharan Malls Dhol Blasters. Already the proud holder of two world titles, the pressure was on to claim his third in-front of an excited and sold out crowd.
Sunny, notorious for his slow starts, began the first round with jabs and front kicks, eager to work out his opponent’s style. Brencis came forward with fast, hard combinations, putting Sunny on his back foot and pressuring the champ for the full 2 minutes of the round. It was a tough one to call but it looked like it was going to be a tough night for the Birmingham favourite.
Round two and Brencis came forward once again. Sunny looked sharp as he avoided his opponents onslaught.
